Reels
The earliest known illustration of a fishing reel is from Chinese paintings and records beginning about 1195 A.D. Kentucky native George Snyder is generally given credit for inventing the first fishing reel in America around 1820: a bait casting design.
Fishing Rods
In theory, an ideal rod should gradually taper from butt to tip, be tight in all its joints, and have a smooth, progressive taper, without 'dead spots'.
Terminal Tackle
Gear that is attached to the end of a fishing line, such as hooks, leaders, swivels, sinkers and snaps, is called terminal tackle.
